A Railroad Town Turned Suburb

Spray Foam Insulation in Chandler serves Warrick County's second-largest town, just east of Evansville. The area opened a post office called Lee in 1847, near a section of the failed Wabash and Erie Canal. In 1874 the town was renamed for O.E. Chandler, foreman of the Lake Erie, Evansville & South Western Railroad, which had just built through. Chandler incorporated in 1953 and had 3,693 residents in 2020.

Housing

The 2020 census counted 1,579 housing units, 7.4% vacant. Homes range from older houses near the original town to newer subdivisions. Older homes often have shallow attics and crawl spaces; newer ones have basements or crawls with unsealed rim joists and attics at the minimum depth.

Climate

Chandler has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and cool to cold winters. That means attic air sealing matters in both seasons, and crawl spaces can get damp in summer.

What we usually do

  • Seal the attic and blow in to R-49 or R-60
  • Foam the rim joist in basements and crawl spaces
  • Encapsulate damp crawl spaces
  • Insulate garages and shops on larger lots

Costs

HomeGuide lists a blown-in attic at $900 to $3,600 and crawl space encapsulation at $3 to $10 per square foot nationally. The written estimate is the price.

Canal and railroad ground

Part of the old Central Canal bed runs near town and was later used for the railroad line through Chandler. Low ground like that can mean damper soil under nearby houses, which shows up as musty crawl spaces and damp basement walls. We check for moisture first.
