From the Historic District to the Subdivisions
Spray Foam Insulation in Newburgh covers two very different kinds of house. The town grew from two plats, Sprinklesburgh (1818) and Abner Luce's Newburgh (1829), merged in 1841, and by 1850 it was one of the larger river ports between Cincinnati and New Orleans. Most notable buildings in the Original Newburgh Historic District date from 1850 to 1930. Around that core, newer subdivisions have filled in as Newburgh became Evansville's easternmost suburb.
Historic houses
Older homes near the riverfront have brick and frame walls, plaster, old foundations and attics that were never sealed. Those houses need a careful approach: seal attic bypasses, add loose fill, insulate rim joists where accessible, and keep foam away from historic plaster and old wiring.
Newer homes
In the subdivisions, the usual issues are bonus rooms over garages, attic insulation installed at the minimum, and basements or crawl spaces with unsealed rim joists. Foam on the rim and around bonus rooms, plus attic top-ups, usually make the biggest difference.
River and dam
Lock and Dam 47 was built in the 1920s and replaced in 1974 by the Newburgh Lock and Dam; locks and dams protect much of the town from flooding. Homes on lower ground near the river can still have damp basements.
Costs
HomeGuide lists rim joist foam at $2,000 to $2,500 and closed-cell at $3.00 to $5.00 per square foot nationally. The written estimate after our visit is your price.
What a visit covers here
In a historic house, we spend most of our time in the attic and the basement, looking at how the house was framed, what wiring is in the walls and ceilings, and whether the foundation stays dry. In a newer subdivision home, we focus on the attic depth, the bonus room and the rim joist. Either way, the quote lists each area separately so you can decide what to do first.

Newburgh Questions
Can a historic Newburgh home be insulated safely?
Yes, carefully. Attic sealing, loose fill and rim joist foam are usually safe. We avoid foam against historic plaster and check wiring first.
Why is the room over my garage cold in winter?
The floor over the garage and the kneewalls around it are often thinly insulated and leaky. Foam usually fixes it.
What does rim joist foam cost?
HomeGuide lists $2,000 to $2,500 nationally. Your written estimate is the price.
